Vintage Ladies Golana Mechanical Wristwatch

Sometimes you find a real gem in the drawer. That’s the case of this Vintage Ladies Mechanical Wristwatch Golana, a handwound watch that comes strainght from the 50s. A bit of history pulled from the net about the brand:

“Golana was created in 1956 by Heinz and Anna Goll in the Swiss town of Bienne with the intention of designing affordable, stylish timepieces that blend classic styles with cutting edge technologies”.

The company does not exist anymore, but this does not take anything away from this beautiful ladies watch. In fact, it adds even to its story, probably being one of the last watches going out from the factory, who knows…

The watch presents itself in a beautiful, and not so common oval shape, having dimensions of 32mm x 25,5mm (without crown or lugs). The thickness is 7mm, making it really flat on the wrist, and wearable even with long sleeve shirts without any issue. The signed crown is 4mm in diameter, which makes it easy to turn even with long nails…

The movement is a traditional hand wound ETA Cal. 2517, derived from the extremely durable and reliable Cal. 2512-1 manunfactured from 1975 to 1983. Charachterized by a beat rate of 21600 bpm, 17 jewels and a power reserve of 44 hours, its diameter of 17mm and height of 2,85mm make it the perfect choice for this classy wrist watch.

Freshly serviced, it runs nicely with a average loss of only 7-10 seconds per day. A nice achievement for such a small watch with probably more than 25 years on its back.

What we like about this watch:

We are extremely fond of this watch. The classy design makes it the perfect companion for the ladies outfit during the holidays, but also for a business attire being flashy enough, but not too obnoxious.

What we don’t like about this watch:

Being a vintage watch, it does have some scratches on the case and glass. These were left to tell its story, making the particular form of the case hard to find a proper replacement glass.
